The Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission has dismissed a complaint against City Attorney Mark Sidran, who was accused of using his office twice to oppose a ballot issue calling for overturning the city's ban of posters on utility poles.
Supporters of Initiative 46 charged Sidran used his office to talk to a TV reporter on Feb. 25 and to send out a press release on June 15 in a political effort to oppose I-46.
Commission Executive Director Carolyn Van Noy ruled July 29 that city elections code allows Sidran to use his office to respond to specific questions posed by the reporter, and the press release was a routine city attorney's office activity.
